Watch it: Waking Tall

I don’t know much about Dwayne Johnson, aka ‘The Rock’. I know he has scary looking muscles, he used to be a wrestler and he is now a celebrity / actor of sorts. Until last week I didn’t much care, either, and I had no intention of seeking his films out. I didn’t rate him as an actor (his new profession of choice after apparently every single other) and I didn’t expect to be seeing him on the screen any time soon.

Then, by pure chance, Walking Tall came on the TV, and being stuck babysitting in Stratford flats and houses for rent all night, I decided to give it a go. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, ‘The Rock’ is in it, and he plays a black Rambo style character. One who gets very, very angry.

As the film started I drifted off, then woke myself back up. Mainly because I wanted to be awake to be able to properly appreciate how bad the acting / story / general everything was. Only it never happened–as the minutes passed I found myself engrossed and cheering and right there with ‘The Rock’! He had been cheated by the local police force in the town where he grew up, it wasn’t fair, and if I could have done I’d have jumped through the screen and helped him any way I could! (Not that he needed much help: the film is brutal, I mean really!)

What I am trying to say is this: Walking Tall is, despite all the odds, actually a damn good action film that everyone (or bloke) should see. Notice I said action film. You won’t find intense character acting here, and you won’t find an amazing plot, but you will find carnage and a damn good watch. If you are like I was then give ‘The Rock’ a chance. He’s got a few surprises up his sleeve, I can tell you!
